18840520-330 is a personnummer - social securtity number. birth year 1884 birth month 05 = may birt date 20 the 330 is a running number whith some connection to where you were born or lived in 1940´s, when the system was introduced. Today one more number is added which is a computerized checknumber.
I dont know of any specific geneagist dealing with seaman etc. There is one guy on this board, Ingemar Gollungberg that seems to be interested in at least the ships. ArkivDigital has a lot of registers on seaman, they are shown under subtitle Sjömanshus not sure how it looks if you got a English version. I also have a CD with a databas EMISJÖ with seaman who checked out, died or jumped the ship abroad
