This is something I wrote on the morning af August 18th, 1957. The 100th, anniversary of my mothers birthsday. Emil Kronquist.
One hundred years ago today, August 18th, 1857, a little girl was born to a blacksmith, Nils Johansson and his wife Elna, in the little town of westra Karraby, in southern Sweden. She was christened Elna Nilsdotter. This girl was married to a tailor at the age of 21, his name was Per Person Nilsson, who later took the name of Kronkvist. Years ago it was the custom in Sweden to allow a young man who had successfully finished his apprenticeship, to choose his own name; this could be different from that of his father's if he so wished.
Today is August the 18th, 1957, and I am commemorating this one hundredth birthsday of my mother with some friends in Milwaukee. The dinner is at The Chalet on the Lake, on the shore of Lake Michigan.
