Hi Roger, about the 1930 census record and the children's father's birth place, I only can guess that the Stahl family gave the wrong country, maybe they knew Carl was Scandinavian but not which country he came from. Also I could not find any online index of deaths for Wisconsin for 1926 to 1930 so do not know when Dorothy died. This seems to be Dorothy in 1920 though, before their marriage. Records available at Ancestry after 1940 are varied by state, for Wisconsin there are indexes for marriages from 1973-1997 and for deaths from 1959 to 1997. Other possible places to look are the public records indexes found under Schools, Directories and Church Lists. There also are city directories that sometimes are helpful, but I do not seen any for Hiles, Wisconsin (that is where Carl and Dorothy lived at the time of their marriage according to the marriage record).
