An interesting index I wasn't aware of. I thank you, and add it to my list of links. The data corresponds with those Håkan found at the MHS website - except for the cert # being different:
JOHNSON, MARTIN N. CertID# 1971-MN-018520 Date of Birth: 01/07/1891 Place of Birth: OUT OF STATE Mother Maiden Name: PERSDOTTER Date of Death: 07/15/1971 County of Death: ST. LOUIS
That he lived in Rice Lake at the time of death is a new piece of information though. Håkan is going to order the cert from MHS, as well as the obit. They locate obits for a fixed rate of $15, a good deal if you can't go to a library and do it yourself. The obit can often be more informative than the certificate.
It's also easier for us living overseas to deal with the MHS that handles cards, than a county recorder who might not. (But sometimes do)
