Hi Karin! Can you provide me with an exact date of birth for Johan Hilmer? I assume he was born in 1875 from what your message said but...a definite date would surely be better in accessing records or addressing a government agency here.
Just wondering...why would he stay behind (alone?) when his father left to return to Sweden-so quickly (less than one year)? Any family stories/ideas? Had he met someone...or had gainful employment...at the time and decided to stay in Canada??? It must have been very concerning for his family as you mentioned his father returned in 1896 for the purpose of searching for him-without success. How heart wrenching it must have been!
