I don't know if Erik 'was born Floberg', as we have no information on his birth at all. All I know is that in 1762 and 1771 (burghership and marriage respectively) he was registered as 'Jurrij Vloberg and Jurie Floberg' (once also written as Vloberg) 'born in Stockholm' in Rotterdam, and after he settled in Amsterdam he was registered in 1772 - as a member of the Lutheran church - as Eric Floberg from Floda. One expert here thinks that he might have been christenened as Göran Eric Floberg, as many immigrants from Germany used their middle name as their given name. I don't know if people from Sweden did that too. Well anyway, thanks for searching and thinking along.
