John, I am not sure that fine is the correct translation for uppenbar kyrkoplikt? My impression is that fine means that the culprit paid a sum of money, and uppenbar kyrkoplikt does not mean that. It means really that the culprit had to stand in church, in view of the congregation, and recieve an admonition from the minister, and then be told to go and sin no more. Perhaps there was a similar punishment in the Church of England, in New England, and that the proper English term can be found there?
