Did the 1699 court clerk misspell the word söllfwerskeden ? I am thinking
it should read silfwerskeden, i.e., silver spoon. Or am I reading this
incorrectly ? Also, can anyone read the first two words on the last line -
looks like --ûfwen emotstagit

Hello Karen!
söllfwerskeden is not misspelled. It's old Swedish spelling as it was spelled in the 17th century and earlier.
The first words on the last line is: Tiufwen emothtagit = the thief has received

Surprising, to see ö used for an 'i' - however, different clerks,
different spelling !

Karen, since this is in Kristianstad 1699, the spelling is most likely influenced by the Danish word for silversked, i.e. sølvske (sølv = silver, ske = spoon). Kristianstad had only been Swedish for 41 years. Before that it was Danish.

Hi Carin - Your explanation certainly agrees with the particular towns I was
studying. There were many Danish-speaking people living there, as verified
in catechism records for that time period. Thank you for that comment.
