What is the english equivalent of Biskopalisk Junnewäselts Brödera? The expression appears in a letter written in 1854 listing the principal religious faiths in in the new Territory of Minnesota. Letter was a response from my Morfarsfar to his brother in Sweden who was studing Theology at Lund.

Biskopalisk could be episcopalian. The second word looks like nonsense, but could possibly be a bad try at a Swedish phonetic spelling of Universal. Does that make any sense? Brödera looks like it could have something with brotherhood to do.
On the whole the phrase looks like complete gibberish. Are you sure you have read correctly? Could we get more of the context? It might help.

I guess he means the Episcopal universal brothers.

There is a Universalist Church in America with roots back to the Spanish Inquisition and 17th Century roots in Holland and England and Puritanism. It has never, however, had an episcopal structure. Until the 1870s-80s in America, each congregation had great latitude in interpreting the Church's dogma. It has since joined another American Church, the Unitarian.
