I am looking for information on an August Peterson, born August 9, 1852, in Boras, Sweden. (Boras with a little ring above the a.) He emigrated to Norway as a young man, and later to the United States. I am hoping to obtain the names of his parents and/or other ancestors. I also would like to know if August had any siblings. Thank you for whatever you can tell me. Karen Douglas from USA.

Karen,

Have you tried looking up August's birth in the
Swedish parish records at a Family History Center
near you?  Here is a website that will help you
find one near you:

I think there are 2 Borås parishes listed--
perhaps you will have to check both if you do not
know which.  The records are all on microfilm and
you will look under:
  -Sweden
    --Alvsborgs län
---Borås Caroli parish  or  Borås Gustav
Adolf parish
         ----Födelsebok  (birth records)

and order the one for 1852.

Here is a website that will help you understand
how the birth record books are set up:

Or better yet buy a copy of Cradled in Sweden--
it is the best reference to Swedish genealogical
research for English-speaking people.  Here is a
website of Frequently Asked Questions (in English)
about Swedish genealogy that may help you:

Whoops!  That should be Ålvsborg län!  (and å
comes at the end of the alphabet)
