Do you know where Jonas were born? I checked in CD-Emigranten and didn't find any Weidow or Wiedow. He may have changed his name when he arrived in US.

By a coinsidence I've found a living Jonas Weidow here in Sweden. Maybe he is a relative someway? Try and write to him at weidow@telia.com. I'll let you know if I find anything else.

Thank you for the lead.  I did write to Jonas Weidow at the e-mail address you recommended. Who knows, perhaps he is a relative of ours?
 
Also, I just found the birthdate for Jonas H. Weidow in the California Death Index.  It is January 2, 1871.  Will that help at all to locate him in the Emigrant CD?  I think Weidow was Jonas' soldier name and the H perhaps stands for his original last name (ie. Hansson, Hokensson, etc.).

Hi Nancy,
It almost impossible finding Jonas if I don't know where he emigrated from. There are a lot of Jonas emigrating from Sweden before 1893, born around 1870. I got to have some more info to be able to find him. Is there any chance you can find a clue from what part in Sweden he came from? Or maybe the year he came to US?

Thank you for your suggestions.  I'll continue researching here to connect my Jonas with a birthplace in Sweden.  I am ordering his death certificate from California.  Perhaps that will have some new information.  
 
Knowing how names were changed on arrival here in the states, Weidow may well have been derived from Widoff.
