My mother's oncle Valdemar Karkiainen (full name: Hugo Valdemar Isaksson Karkiainen) born 31/7 1887 (in Teurajärvi, parish of Korpilombolo, province of Norrbotten in northern Sweden) emigarted to the US around 1912. At first he stayed with his fellows in Michigan but later, I belive in the end of the 1910's, he decided to go to the 'Pacific Ocean' (Washington State?). I would be very greatful if someone could shed light on his whereabouts!!!

He comes from a Finnish-speaking part of Sweden and might well have been regarded as a 'Finn' in the US.

Some of his relatives lives in Minnesota and has taken the name 'Isaacson'.

I\m still looking for Valdemar but I can add some information.

He arrived to New York Aug 25 1909 on his way not to Michigan but to Chisholm or Virginia, Minnesota to his uncle Charles Elmer Isaacson.
He entered the US under the name Walte Karkeinen (Valte or Valde was hes nickname).

I\d be very grateful for any help!!!!
