I am searching for information regarding my grandmother. She came to the U.S. at the age of 16. My father's birth certificate shows her birthplace as Sweden but that's the only location information provided. She was born April 27, 1888 and came to America with her brother William. I don't know if he was younger or older. She passed away December 1969. She married Gilbert Marion Harris and after he passed away she married Karl Hallgren. I don't know her marriage dates or death dates of either of her spouses. As a child I remember she had a neice come and visit her from Sweden and I believe her last name was Snodgrass. Thank you

Hi Clara,
on the emigrant CD I found Svea Viktoria Grahnberg, 16 yrs, emigrating from Piteå parish, sailed from Göteborg 16 Dec 1904 with destination New York.
There was also a William N Granberg, 15 yrs from Piteå, sailed 5 May 1909 from Göteborg to Sioux Falls.
Maybe this is your grandmother and her brother?

I did a search on the 1890 census site and found:
Peter Anton Granberg, b. 1854 Piteå parish
wife Alma Isabella Burström, b. 1864 Byske, Piteå parish
daughter Ellen Lovisa, b. 1884 Piteå
son Karl Anton, b. 1886 Piteå
daughter Svea Viktoria, b. 1888 Byske, Piteå parish
son Ernst Konrad, b. 1890 Piteå
(Peter Anton Granberg?s widowed father) Nils Peter Andersson Granberg, b. 1824 Piteå parish.
Peter Anton Granberg was at the time a farmer (hemmansägare) in Byske in Piteå parish.

Clara, you´re very welcome.
Out of curiousity I looked at the Ellis Island site too, and I guess you´ve already found that Svea arrived on 1 Jan 1905 on the Cedric from Liverpool.
Apparently she traveled with her uncle, Nils Granberg, who appears to live in Canova, S.Dakota.
I went back to the CD and found that Nils A Granberg originally emigrated on 5 Aug 1881, at age 21, and traveled to Sioux Falls. My guess is he went home to visit in 1904 and brought his niece back to America with him.

I might have found your grandmothers sister Ellen Lovisa in the death-book for Sweden during the year 1950-1999
Ellen Lovisa born 3.6.1884 in Piteå was married to a Danielsson, she became widow 3.9.1950, she died 5.3.1975 in Markbygdens parish, Piteå

Thank you for the information. Is there any way to find out if Nils Granberg's middle name was August? I have found that record with a birth date of March 31, 1861. Thank you again for all your help.

According to the CD Piteanor 2000, Nils August Granberg was born March 31, 1861, in Byske, Piteå. He died February 1, 1933, in Canova, South Dakota, USA.
