Could someone please help with the meaning/origins of the surname Örterström? I thought it might have been a compound nature name from the words örter = herbs and ström = stream but I have been told that it is unheard of to use a plural in these compound names. The suggestion was made that the name might be of German origins. The particular family I am interested in emigrated to the USA from Jämshög parish according to the Emigranten CD:
Name: Hulda A. Örterström
Age: 26
Parish: Jämshög
Län: K
Title/Anm: FRK
Place of Departure: Malmö
Date of Departure: 1903 05 18
Destination: New York
Contract #: 1903:2282:0406
The following emigrants also had the surname Örterström and also emigrated from Jämshög:
Alma Hilda - Age 17 - 1906 - Boston
Anton H. - Age 20 - 1903 - Minn.
Gustaf O. - Age 35 - 1929 - Minn.
Olga N. - Age 18 - 1910 - New York
Many thanks, Chris
