Does this notation for Lars Gunnar Johansson, 2 Nov 1923, mean that he changed his name to Sondebjer? It looks like this is the name on the next household record referenced.

Yes, it seems like he got the King's permission to take that last name.

Actually, they changed name pretty often in old times. The farmers kept their Andersson and Jonsdotter but those who moved to a city or started as a craftsman often changed to a family name. Sondebjer is a strange name though, it does not sound swedish. There might have been some specific reason about that name change.

Yes, I'm aware of the name changes. There are many in my family. What I thought was unusual was the fact that the King gave permission.

It seems some new rules and regulations was introduced in 1901 and that's when the King's permission was needed
