Titel: Notation on household record
Skrivet av: Carol Kemp skrivet 2022-05-12, 20:34

Could someone tell me what it says to the right on this household record listing Irenes Viktor Sjoholm, 5 Apr 1872?  Does the “d” indicate a divorce?  I know that he remarried in 1912.  Are divorces listed somewhere?  Thanks,

Carol

Hi!
Here's the transcribed annotation:

"Uttagit hinderslöshetsbet. till Ljungarums fsml. (Jön-
köp. l. d. 20/1 1896) Skiljobref i trolofning fr. Dom-
kap. i Växjö af 3/4 1912. Ledig till
Äktensk. Se. Lysn. B. 1912 No.12"

There are three separate notations.
The first one is about a certificate to show that he was free to marry (hinderslöshetsbetyg), which he took out in 1896. Then there is a notation of divorce, or perhaps rather the annulment of an engagement, which was granted by Växjö diocese on the 3rd of April 1912. The third notation tells us that you'll find him in the book of marriages under nr. 12 in 1912. This is likely why he took out divorce (or annulled his engagement).

"D" would not be likely as an abbreviation of divorce in Swedish, "S" as in "skilsmässa" would be more likely.
If you want to find out more about the annulled engagement, you could order copies of the records (they have not been digitized yet)

Erik,

Thank you so much.  After further research I did find that he was engaged but did not marry the woman.  He then later married my grandmother.  Carol
