I am trying to find the birth record for Johan Andersson.  On the household record link below, and other household records, it gives his birthdate as 1830-01-19 in Hedemora.  Unfortunately I cannot find his birth record in the Hedemora parish records.

It happened now and then that births weren't recorded properly.

You can find Johan as "husbonde" (head of household) with his parents Anders Jansson and Stina Andersdotter in Hedemora AIb/2d img. 17 p. 8.

EDIT: In Hedemora AI/15e img. 14 p. 5 his birth date is given as Jan. 12 1831 and there he is in the birth records: Hedemora CI/9 img. 100, last entry on the right hand page:

How did you go about finding these records with Johan?  Did you use an index search or other?

I just followed him backwards in the "husförhörslängder" - thankfully there are good indexes in all the volumes, so it was easy to find Bältarbo village and the Kämp farm where he lived. His birth year is 1830 in all the volumes, except the earliest (AI/15e). It even looks as if the entry was changed from 1831 to 1830 in AI/16e, img. 15 p. 7.

If the vicar was a bit careless, it is of course possible that a note with Johan's birth was lying around and not entered until a year after his birth - and under the wrong year. Stranger things have happened. But it's not very likely.

No, I don't subscribe to AD. I use the free databases from the Swedish National Archives. A bit less convenient now and then, but most of the times I fi d what I'm looking for.
