Titel: Anders Larsson on Household Record
Skrivet av: Greg Rosenvall skrivet 2021-12-30, 01:14
I am trying to learn everything I can about Anders Larsson, listed on the household record given by the link below.  My understanding from this record is Anders was born 20 May 1816 in Lännäs.

What relationship does he have with this family?  What do the words before his name (? Enk.) mean?  Any other insights from this record would be most appreciated.

Thank you,
Greg

Hi!

Anders Larsson is "inhyses" which means that he is housed there. He is also a widower (enkling back then Änkling in modern Swedish) since 1874. He was born on May 20 1816 in Lännäs Parish. He has taken the holly communion several times during this examination period.

He does not seem to have any family relation with the ones in the household and that is not strange because he was a widower and old. Before the Elderly care had developed to be more effective and nursing in the 20 th Century, the Parish had to take care of the ones who could not manage to support themselves. The wife to the farmer could, at first glimpse, have been Anders Larsson's daughter but I have not found out that he had one born that year and day.

You can probably find him in the household examination book before this one and trace him back and see where he lived when he was married. I made some search and found out where he lived before turning up housed. Perhaps you already know that or want to search for your self? If not let me know.

Good Luck

Klas

Klas:

Thank you!  Very helpful.

Below is a list of household records I found for Anders Larsson in chronological order.  I could not find anything prior to the 1851-1855 record.  From the earlier records, it appears he was married to Brita Stina Andersdotter and had two daughters (Brita Maria and Anna Sophia).  I am not sure of relationship of the two boys listed (Eric and Johan) which have the same birthdate so I am assuming twins.  In the 1861-1865 record it appears they may be sons?

Thank you,
Greg

Hi Greg!

Here he is, at least I think it is him in the two first examination books. You should check it up though:

Stora Mellösa (T) AI:17a (1836-1840) Bild: 304 Sida: 299
Lännäs (T) AI:14 (1841-1845) Bild: 225 Sida: 187
Asker (T) AI:17a (1846-1850) Bild: 117 Sida: 104

When it comes to the examination you mentioned, it says the two twins are his sons. Also there is a note further to the right at that page and it says that his wife is a devoted Baptist and has convinced the daughter Brita Maja too and therefor not letting her take the Holy Communion in the Swedish Church. In the previous examination we can see how the Priest has noted that she has become a Baptist.

Regards

Klas

Thank you.  Again very helpful.

Do you have any opinion or insights on the previous question I had about the two boys listed (Eric and Johan) in the household records which have the same birthdate so I am assuming twins? In the 1861-1865 record it appears they may be sons to Anders Larsson?

Hi again!

The two twins are his sons according the examination books.I mentioned it in the last message. Did you not see it or did I miss it?

If you are interested in how Sweden developed during the 19th Century with the so called Free Churches threathening the Monopoly of the Swedish Church, I might get you some links to some information in english about it.

Sorry - I missed it.  I looked up the household references you gave and failed to continue reading your note.  Thank you again!

Yes I am interested in learning more how Sweden developed during the 19th century.  Trying to learn all I can.

This forum is great and I am very appreciative.

I will see if I can find some good link. A little short I can say that Baptism first came to Sweden in 1848 and nine years later they had around 2000 members (in 45 Chruches), Anders wife Brita Stina one of them. After 1860 people where allowed to leave the Church of Sweden as long as they became members of an approved congregation. Until 1863 all Swedes had to take the Holy Communion or face a penalty. The monopoly of the Church of Sweden was one reason for people leaving Sweden for North America in the mid 19th Century. The most important reason for people moving away from Sweden from mid 1800's to early 1900's, was economical though because the increasing population in Sweden led to fewer people having the chance to get their own farm or even croft.

Well here is a link to some Englishman who writes about it. I have not read it all thru, but at least the part I saw was correct. I am not sure how safe this site is though but I guess it is ok.

Also here is a link to the Church of Sweden and their view of the History of Christianity in Sweden. Not much about the free Churches though:
