Titel: Need help with 1686 military record
Skrivet av: Victoria Cihla skrivet 2021-07-28, 16:05
Can anyone help with a 1686 military record?  I would like to understand more about Jöns Jönsson in Balkeryd  - what is his role?  What exactly is this record I'm looking at?  Is he a soldier?  Is there another record that I should be looking for for him that would have more information?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello again,

Not very clear, but I will have a go:

First column: Häradh (area)
Second column: Sochn (parish)
Third column: Possession (ownership)
Fourth column: By (village)
Fifth column: Bonde (farmer)
Sixth/seventh columns: unclear, but it seems to be the part of the farms responsibility to support a soldier
Eight colums: Knechtars Nambn (names of soldiers)

I e Balkeryd is an infantry village, and the farmers responsible for supporting a soldier are Jöns Jönsson, Per Persson, Lars Nilsson, and then a taxvalue part/amount. The soldier is Jöns Jahansson in Mäseboda from Calm: (Kalmar) lähns instead of Nils Månsson who remains at his group under Kalmar Regiment. Unclear meaning here?

I doubt that there would be any more military information so early unless your Jöns is mentioned in the rolls before and after this, he is a farmer and not a soldier. If so it is probably kept at Krigsarkivet (National military archives).

Hi again Yvonne!

Thank you for your help (again) - I appreciate it.  I thought that he was not a soldier, due to his age at that time, but wanted to make sure that I was not misunderstanding.

Thanks again,

Vicki
