Titel: How do you find someone in Stockholm?
Skrivet av: Carol Kemp skrivet 2021-06-02, 00:21

How do you track a person who has moved to Stockholm?  Where is the best place to look?  Is there an easier way to find someone when you don’t have any name other than Stockholm?

I am trying to find Erik Larsson, born 26 Jul 1813, in Finnerodja (parents Lars Larsson and Lisa Larsdotter.  I have followed him through several moves but am at a loss when he moves from Finnerodja to Stockholm in 1842.

This is the record that shows the move:

Stockholm is difficult because of its size, but there are also quite a few indexed records that can be searched at:
https://sok.stadsarkivet.stockholm.se/ (https://sok.stadsarkivet.stockholm.se/)
I tried searching mantalslängderna 1855 for Erik Larsson born 1813:
https://sok.stadsarkivet.stockholm.se/Databas/mantalsregister-1855/Sok?sidindex=0&efternamn=Larsson&fornamn=Erik&fodelsedatum-aaaammdd=1813 (https://sok.stadsarkivet.stockholm.se/Databas/mantalsregister-1855/Sok?sidindex=0&efternamn=Larsson&fornamn=Erik&fodelsedatum-aaaammdd=1813)
This gives a Johan Erik Larsson born 1813 with record no 571A:13 in Katarina Norra. This might be your Erik Larsson, although we would need to investigate further to tell. We can find the page of the record scanned here:
https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/A0057286_00353 (https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/A0057286_00353)
which shows that Johan Eric Larsson born 1813 lives at Glasbruket mindre in Katarina församling.

If you want to check whether this is your Erik Larsson, I'd suggest trying to find him in husförhörslängden in Katarina församling.

Alvin,

Thanks so much for the tips.  I'll do some searching to see if this is the correct Erik.  Stockholm is difficult.  Some times I have spent hours going through all the parishes looking for someone.

It's better to look att moving in records than "husförhörslängd" in Stockholm.

Is there one place to look or do I have to know the specific area?  Thanks, Carol

Move in records? They are per Parish. But answers are seldom general, so what are you looking for now, is it still when Erik Larsson moved in to Katarina?

Yes, he moved from Finnerodja to Stockholm in 1842.  The Johan Erik Larsson mentioned in the above posts is not the right one.  Also, I looked through household records and found nothing.

In this tax record for Katarina parish in 1845 (in reality at the end of 1844) there is a bricklayer Erik Larsson with the correct birth data:
https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/A0057255_00836 (https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/A0057255_00836)

Here it wrongly says 1835 (should be 1845):
https://sok.stadsarkivet.stockholm.se/Bildarkiv/Egenproducerat/SE-SSA-0032/mantalsbok/M4513011718_150dpi.pdf (https://sok.stadsarkivet.stockholm.se/Bildarkiv/Egenproducerat/SE-SSA-0032/mantalsbok/M4513011718_150dpi.pdf)

It might be the same person in the household records 1849-50 below, although the birth year in that case is 1814. The other pieces of personal information are the same as in the tax record above:

Åke,

Thank you.  I do believe that you have found him.  The birth dates match on the first two records, and the year is one off on the 3rd.  Can you tell me what it says under his name on the tax record.  There appear to be two names, and it looks like Clara ?  with a number to the right.

In the last household record for Erik, there is something to the left of his name.  Is this a title or occupation?  The record can be found at https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0050092_00081

Carol,
The two tax records from 1845 above are in fact one and the same. The second is the personal tax form (mantalsuppgift) on which the first one, the compiled tax record (mantalslängd), is based. The note concerns another person, a master bricklayer in Klara (Clara) parish.

Ake,

Thanks again.  I will try to find him in some later household records as I want to know if he ever married and had children.  Carol

Did you find his move in record? It is in Katarina (A, AB) BI:8 (1841-1845) Bild 4330 / sid 417 (AID: v86901.b4330.s417, NAD: SE/SSA/0009) and he was not registered there until April 30 1845, but it say that he moved from Finnerödja 1842-10-31. Unfortunately it say nothing about what happened to him after. Nor do the index in ArkivDigital give any hit on him after the one 1849-50 that you already have.

Leif,

No, I did not have this record.  Thank you.  I don't know what happened after 1849-50.  I looked at the next set of household records, after finally figuring out that there were two registers included; but did not see him in the same location, Barnangen mindre.  I then looked at moving out records for 1850-1853 but did not see him.  Carol
