Skrivet av: Carla Tweeton skrivet 2020-12-10, 03:20
Elias Simonsson was born 1702; died 1781 in Fjärhult, Hinneryd, Markaryd, Kronoberg County  Sweden.  His father was Simon Nilsson 1677-1729.  Would the name HINDBORG indicate a soldier name?  In appreciation for any information.   Carla Tweeton

Hello,

The placement of this question made it difficult to find, and I suppose this is outdated, but in case you are still interested.

This particular person has indeed this name because he was a soldier. He is listed in "generalmönsterrullor" (general soldier rolls) several times, first time in 1721 where it is noted that he has been a solider for 1 year and 5 months, first in the rota 24th of february 1720. He is unmarried and born i Småland.

In 1740 he is noted to have quit the rota 21st of June 1733 so he should have been a soldier for just over 13 years.

Note that his soldier name is relatively difficult to read in these sources, but it seems it is "Himberg" rather than anything else.
