Titel: Question about tax classifications
Skrivet av: Victoria Cihla skrivet 2020-09-05, 03:13
A general question on how tax classifications are determined:

Is it possible for an older son who continues living and working on a farm with his parents at, for example, age 29 or 30, to be listed as dr Gumme, instead of son Gumme and taxed as drang (farmhand) instead of son (bachelor)?  Does it make a difference?

Any insight would be much appreciated!

Thank you,

Vicki

Yes, an older son could be classified as either a son or a dräng. Same goes for daughters and piga. In some tax registers there is only one column for both son/dräng, and one for daughter/piga. I don't know if there was any difference in taxation for children and hired staff.

Thank you for your explanation!  I hoped that was the case but wanted to ensure that I wasn't incorrectly assuming (unrelated) farmhands were sons.

This helps a lot!

Thank you,
