Attached is a tax record with a note that has been highlighted. Can anyone tell me what this word is?

I found another later record that shows this more clearly - I believe it is a soldier - can anyone confirm? On the other record there is also a "soldat" which also is a soldier. What is the distinction between ryttare and soldat?
Thanks very much,

The word is "Ryttare", a soldier on a horse, sometimes only for the transportation while the fighting was on foot, sometimes fighting from horseback.

Hello Victoria,
the Swedish word "dragon" was commonly used for a soldier on a horse that fought on the ground. Umeå regiment in the north of Sweden is known as "Blå dragonerna". Blue was the colour of their coats.
But the issue with what he really was, can be solved by looking on the name of the regiment. Is it "kavalleri" (cavalry), was he surely a soldier on a horse. Was the regiment "artilleri" or "infanteri" was he not.
Best, Desirée
