Can someone tell me what the cause of death is? I found many words that look like they are similar - deformed, did not thrive, neglected - not sure what it means.

Any help would be appreciated!

It say "Veneriskt" = venereal. What could that be for a so young child?
-
Exactly - It seemed like it wasn't something very nice, which is what prompted my question. Do you that is right? I would have no idea what that would indicate.... Has anyone else seen this?
I'd appreciate your thoughts - the child was just over a year old.
Thanks,

Hi Victoria!
In the days before treatment, children dying from venereal disease passed on from the mother was a grim reality.
Several venereal diseases can cause death or life threatening illness in newborns, though syphilis (in children known as congenital syphilis) was probably one of the most common.

I have seen a few cases of children dying from venereal disease in the records, but it's not many.
This cause of death could of course also be the result of "misdiagnosis" by the parish priest, who after all probably did not have any medical training at all.
Regards
Erik

In this case, on the right page, there is a 26 year old not married male that has the same diagnosis.

Thank you for all the very interesting information. A grim reality in any day and age.
