Hi all . My name is Silvia Dahlquist from Argentina. I'm looking for information about my great-great-grandfather who came from Sweden to South America around the middle of the 19th century. I only have his name in Spanish, Juan Enrique Dahlquist. Here he married Rosa Caballero and had several children, including Juan Ramón and José Dahlquist, both recognized in Paraguay for their teaching, the first, and political relations, the second. But I'm interested to know if anyone knows about Dahlquist that they came to South America in the 19th century, before 1884 when their first child was born. Maybe in Swedish it was called Johan Henrik ?? I do not know for sure . I'm looking for records of his death in family search, and in Argentina records of his children's baptism, but I have not found any information yet. I hope someone can help me. Thank you very much

The only one named Johan Henrik Dahlqvist/Dahlquist born before 1884 and living in Sweden 1860 didn't emigrate.
He might here just have been called Johan Henrikssson or Johan Henrik with another patronymic. Then it would be very hard to identify him.

It's a database BIS 1860-1947 which contains all Swedes and which places they lived at with some exceptions for the end of the period and Stockholm. It's included in the Arkiv Digital subscription.
There are also separate databases for Stockholm, the main one Rotemannen contains 1878-1926. With noone with that name.

Seems like Erik Johans father took the last name Dahlquist from the farm he was living on, "Dalen" meaning "the valley". Quist was probably put on to make it look like an ordinary swedish last name. In earlier records his last name was Ersson, son of Erik. The change was made somtime between 1841 and 1845.
