Hey!
I’m searching information about a person named Hans Holsman who was born in 1727 according to some Finnish military rolls. Some documents mention him to have been born in 1732.
His familyname varies in different documents between Holsman, Holtzman, Haltzman, Haldtzman and Halsman..
He lived most of his life in Ristiina (Kristina) in Finland. Hans came from
Stockholm in Finland when he was still pretty young. He was serving in Savolax infanteriregementes Livkompani from 1746 onwards.
I don’t know when and where he met his wife Maria Treffenberg, but his wife was born in Finland anyway and their first child Erik Johan Holsman was born in Helsingfors 6th of march 1752 and they had many more children later.
About two years ago I was searching Hans with a help of familysearch.org and I found out that there was born some Hans Holsman in Svea livgardes grenadjärbataljon in Stockholm 23.6.1727.
I would appreciate a lot if some of you could figure out if this Hans might be the same person who moved later in Finland.
And I would be also very interested in his roots; Where his parents came from etc..
What do you think about his familyname? Was the name Holsman common in Sweden those days? Probably german roots?
If my ancestor Hans Holsman is the same than the one who was born in 1727 in Grenadjärbataljon in Stockholm, then his parents were Jons Haltzman and Stina Andersdotter Halling.
So, i’m basically looking for clues about this Jons Haltzman and his roots.
But all information about his son Hans will be also highly appreciated!
First of all would be important to know if I’m searching documents about the right person.

It's a very unusual name. Btw, Jöns' name is probably Holtzman, according to the probate record 1749 for his second wife, Barbro Holm. She was from Hållnäs. Maybe it would be fruitful to check for Jöns also in Hållnäs.

I’m not yet get very used to search from the swedish digital archives but I’ll try to find..
By the way, I found Hans Holtzman’s parents’ wedding date ”by accident”!

They got married in october 1720 in the gredadjärbataljon and Hans Holsman’s father is named as Jöns Hansson Holtzman. Now we know that Jöns’ father was Hans or he could have been Johannes as well (especially if he came from Germany).
What cours to the familyname you are probably right as it was also written as Holtzman in his copulation.
Still have to search information about Jöns Holtzman.
Do you know if there are some archives about moving in and abroad from Sweden?

There might be passport records, but they are rare in the 1700's.

General muster roll of 1721, Captain Casper Johan von Berchs Granadieur Compagnie. Soldier number 16 is Jöns Hansson Holtzman, age 28½, accepted 1719, service years 1 and 8 months, westgöte i.e. he is from Västergötland, married.
