I am wondering why the name of Täby town sometimes is called Täby bjur.   Is this the same town north of Stockholm? Or a different town?  There is another Täby in Värmland.  It is said to be a new town, so was it there in the 1700's and 1800's??  Thanks for your help!

Täby is an old parish not far from Stockholm. In the 20th century it grow as a suburb of Stockholm and can now be considered a "town". Täby is also the name of other places, farms, villages, around Sweden. Bjur is usually a family name but can also be a short for places like Bjurfors. Where have you seen Täby bjur, what is the context?

Thanks for the response.  I was looking in the ArkivDigital under Stockholm Täby births, 1794, and under the place born column it is listed as Täby bjer or Täby bjur.  It is hard to read.  An example was on ArkivDigital: Täby (AB) Cl:3 1762-1815 Image 83/Page 78.  I was wondering if that place was just the town Täby, or if the bjer added to the name had some special meaning, for example, a military area or other specific part of town?

It says Täby byn (village) nothing else.

Just like to point out what has already been said here and also explain some about Villages in Sweden. Täby during the 18 th century was not a town, city or even a village in the classic British sense, it was a parish. Close to the Church it cold be some houses  but not many. The rest of the houses in Täby, like other Swedish socknar were spread out in the parish in small clusters that we in Swedish use to call "byar" or "orter" that often contained 2-5 farms and perhaps some crofts on the property. The word By in Swedish is often translated to the Englsih Village, a place often with a few hundred up to a few thousand people, but a by was much much smaller. Most Swedish cities (Städer in Swedish, from the old Swedish word "Stad" that meant place), until the 19 th Century, were not larger than a traditional Englsih Village.

Also when it says Täby byn I guess it is the small settlement near the Church that is refered to
