Titel: Trying to find a family after they came to the America
Skrivet av: Ken Johnson skrivet 2018-04-18, 15:49
On Ancestry.com I have a Christina Maria Åkesdotter (b-28 NOV 1843 • Augerum) and a Magnus Holjersson Soderberg (14 FEB 1841 • Kufvehall 92, Kristianopel) and their children Thilda Maria, Haken Peter leaving Sweden for America in 27 Mar 1875 from Kristianopel, Blekinge.

I am unable to find this in the parish records but there is no index for the Husförhörslängder, I have a hard time understanding the Swedish on the "Riksarkivet" pages and I am not having luck.

In the end I am trying find out where they came to in America if the parish records say anything about destination.

Could/would someone help?

Here they are in the houshold examination book of Kristanopel 1875 - 1883.
It says only that Magnus is a Blacksmith and that the famely is living in Amerika.

There is also a note in the book 1868 - 1875 mentioning a "certificate for America 1872 31 05". Probably a proof that he is a honorable man.

Good luck with your research / Roy

Thanks Roy for looking it up and for your reply and the information.

And this...

Chr Maria Åkersdotter

Magnus Söderberg's wife and two children left Gothenburg for Hull May 7 1875. No destination is mentioned in the list of passengers, but perhaps it should be New York as for the last persons on the previous page. Link: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/A0056898_00069.

I found this (attached) at this location...

Kristianopels kyrkoarkiv, Flyttningslängder, SE/LLA/13211/B/2 (1862-1894) Bild 55

What are they referring to Folio Uti Förhörsboken - "397"? 3rd line down... or "3." right hand page.

Thanks Roy

Found it... and it doesn't say where in America they were headed (I didn't think it would, I mostly just wanted to find this document and see everything on it), I guess I am going to have to purchase Emibase.

What does it say on the right side - "? till Amerika" (cropped view also attached)

As I said my first answer; Bevis till Amerika =  "certificate for America 1872 31 05". Probably a proof that he is a honorable man.

Ken, isn´t it more likely to find them in US Census, perhaps through "familysearch.org"? Have you tried to find them at "findagrave" in US?
There wouldn´t be any address to find in Swedish sources.

Marianne,

Nothing is coming up on him (or them) over here in the States. I have been on Familysearch.org and Ancestry.com for Census', etc.. If they were on Findagrave they would show up on Ancestry.com. No luck on DISBYT except his birth.

I don't come here (Anbytarforum) before checking those other easier sources just mentioned... I come here as a last resort when I have exhausted all of those options and everything over here has come up with nothing.

That's why I am trying so hard to get something from that end, otherwise I wouldn't be asking.

There are some Magnus Soderberg's but immigration dates and birth years are different.

I don't know if he/they changed their last name or what happened?

Ken, I didn´t mean to insult you.
Maybe, they changed their names. Magnus Söderberg wont be an easy name to pronounce, I guess.
The only chance in Swedish books would perhaps be an inventory when an unmarried sibling died. Maybe there could be an US state mentioned. Sibling or Magnus and the wife´s parents Death perhaps - if they died after their emigration.
Hopefully me or someone here will be able to help you.

The certificate mentioned in Kristianopel AI:20 page 397 is an ordinary "moving out attestation" (flyttattest). It is dated 31/5 72, and in AI:22 page 400 is a notation on Magnus Söderberg "Amerika 1872", to the left of his name.

He probably left already then, before the rest of the family, so I started to search from that date and found him here:
Göteborgs poliskammare (-1900) EIX:6 (1872-1872) Bild 1960 / sid 387 (AID: v479730.b1960.s387, NAD: SE/GLA/12703)

Left Göteborg on Orlando June 7, destination Moline, Illinois.

Marianne,

No worries... It looks like Kristina is on to something.

Thanks

Kristina,

Great! Now I have him headed to Moline, Illinois so I can search in and around there.

Hopefully now this is enough of a lead I can track them down.

Thank you very much! Thanks to everyone!  :)
