Hej, My ancestor, Lars Ersson born 1798, in this household exam: Fryksände AI:14 (1812-1821) Image 153 / page 146 (AID: v10906.b153.s146, NAD: SE/VA/13131), shows N:IS next to his name and the person below him has N:SS. Could someone tell me what those two abbreviations mean? I haven't been able to find them anywhere. Tack!

It must have something to do with from where they came as farmhands in 1821 (I interprete the figure after the letters as 21.) However they do not seem to fit for any of the places in Fryksände parish that are mentioned in the directory at the beginning of AI:14. Neither is there a parish name that could be understood by thos letters. Hmm..... Hope someone can tell.

I'm sure the abbreviations tell from which farmer they came, like Nils IvarsSon and Nils SvensSon.

I agree, as there are similar abbreviations on many other pages in the volume,like I.OS, E.IS, P.KS etc.

So I should look for him in 1821 to see if there is a farmer with those initials?

Yes, you should. But note that I also might be a J.
Two pages forward (148) there is a farmer Nils Jönsson. He has a lot of farmhands and some are listed on the right side. There is a Lars Ersson born 7 august 98.
