Dear all,

Please see attached birth record. The entry is for:

Child: Johanna Britta born 12 April 1828
Father: Anders Nilson
Mother: Gunne Olsdotter (32 years)

Please can you help me transcribe the names and words in the final 'sponsor' column? I can make out Sven Olson and Oluf Hanson but I don't know who these people are. Any ideas?

Also, this appears to be the link on the Family Search (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q24G-DRTN) website.

Thank you.

Hi
They are witnesses to the christening. Mostly they are relatives ore neighbours; I believe that the old idea was that they should replace the parents if they died during the childs infancy.

Thank you Lars.

If possible, please can you transcribe the text in the witness column?

Hi again:
Yes it says:
"Torp. Sven Olsson på
Måsen med Hustru, drän-
gen Olof Hansson i Svar-
trå, Torp. Sven Olssons H Ch-
stina Sönnerberg"

The words are cut off in a very curious way, but they must fit into the column.
Torp: means Crofter
and the names are Sven Olsson and wife, Olof Hansson, Sven Olssons wife Christina Sönnerberg. Are there two Sven Olsson ?

regards LarsO

Thanks again Lars, that great.

Today is the first time I have seen these names so I will need to investigate. I am thinking that Sven Olsson could be a brother of Gunne Olsdotter?

As above, thank you very much for your assistance.

Ide:
Brother and sister - of course it is possible, but you must look into that with an open mind. Olsson and Olsdotter as Svensson and Svensdotter (as examples) are very common swedish names.
