Titel: Handwritng help
Skrivet av: Robert Carlson skrivet 2017-02-23, 00:16
My grandfather, Harold Karlsson wrote a list of family members.  I cannot make out what seems to be his aunt's name.  I am looking at the bottom entry for his sister Signe.  It reads:
Signe Mathilde Karlson born 1 January 1884
To America 28 October 1902
Forsta "this is the word that I cannot read" 6 January 1902.
I know that his mother's sister was Mathilda Kristina Jensen.  Could the missing word be some form of her name?
I am also looking for the information for Signe's Flyttningsbetyg.
Thank you for your help.

My apologies for submitting to quickly.  Signe was the daughter of Johan August Karlsson, who died 10 April 1900 in Norrkoping.  Shortly after that she moved to Norra (Fors?) and, from my grandfather's note, moved to America on 28 October 1902.

Hi Robert,
I read "första plats" = (the) first place

Thanks, Åke,  I wonder if "the first place" means the first time in America.  Maybe she moved back to Sweden?  I don't know what happened to her.  I think from the next line she died in 1906 but I do not know where.

I agree, "första plats den 2 januari 1902" and it could mean "first work Jan 2 1902", would that make sense?

Leif, perhaps my grandfather meant "first arrived".  If Signe left her home in Norrkoping  on 28 October 1901, it may have taken two months to arrive in America.  Most of my relatives crossed over from England and there were delays in traveling.

I think Leif is right.
Fått plats, got work.
More common earlier.

Thanks Åke and Leif,  in American English this phrase might translate to "found a job" or "started working".  Signe was the only other sibling to move to America, so this line probably refers to her.  The other information that you found are my grandparents, father and aunt.   My grandfather died when my father was only six years old.  He believed that all of his aunts and uncles, except Dagmar, died in childhood.  However, Åke, you sent me some information on Sigrid and Dagmar recently, showing they married.  I am trying to learn more about the others.  I know that Knut apparently survived to adulthood but I do not know if he ever married, had children or when he died.  I think that maybe the information on Signe's Flyttningsbetyg will help me track down where she went in America and I can pick up the search from here.

Thanks for the help that you have given me.
