Titel: 1822 Bouppteckning words
Skrivet av: Norm Pono Sandin skrivet 2009-03-27, 03:08
Hello

I'm trying to translate the bouppteckning of an ancestor to English and I can't find several words in any dictionaries or online.  Perhaps they are misspelled or in a regional dialect.  Please help by telling me the modern Swedish word, the English translation, or the source where I can find help.  I left enough in each image to not cut off characters.

I don't understand the last few characters after Bollster 2 and Kuddar 23.

Thank you for your help and please pardon the use of English!

First word is förläggar slef af Tenn which means a big ladle made of pewter, for serving soup for instance.

Second word is Hand qwarn mean a small thing, run manually to grind grain. Modern spelling is handkvarn, perhaps you can find a picture of one, if you try Google Picture Search.

The third word, I don't get the first part, but the second is skrubbel, which might be a carding implement, used in the process of making yarn from wool.

The bolster figures are the weight of each item, the first weighing 2 pund (pounds), the second weighing 23 marker, one mark being the same as a pound (425 grams).

And the last words looks like Nagelton, which I can't identify.

Aloha!

Hello again!

What's the word under Nagelton?
It seems to start with Smed (smith).
Nagelton could be Nageltorn, a tool used to form the heads on nails, e.g. horseshoe nails.

Thank you Ann-Mari, Elisabeth and Stefan for your help!

3. kader skrubbel = card cleaner?
I suppose the first word is meant to be card.

5. nageltorn = nail head former?
In another bouppteckning I have nageltorn spelled with the r.  This one is included with tinsmith equipment.

Mahalo nui loa,
Pono

Nageltorn is a blacksmith's tool, used when making nails. After cutting and forming the stem of the nail, you put it in the nageltorn and form the head. I don't know the englisn translation.

Thanks Per!

I will be happy to add the parish to the queries.  As you can see from the title, I did indicate that the bouppteckning was from 1822.

Are you related to Elisabeth?

Aloha,
Pono
