A distant relative was came from Crofter's holding Dal in Sater in Kila, Varmland.  Can anyone tell me the meaning of Crofter's holding Dal?  Was this a farm?  Thanks!

Crofter's holding Dal probably is a torp named Dal.

Crofter's holding Dal in Sater in Kila, Varmland probably means that he was from the torp Dal under the farm Säter in Kila parish in the province Värmland.
 
Here is a map where you can see Kila church and a farm named Säter (Notice: not neccesarily the right place!).

Bo is indeed right. Dal was a torp under the Säter that he has found on the map.
