Seeking help with a mystery. My ancestor, Joseph Bastido/Bostido appeared in Staten Island, New Amsterdam (now New York City) in the last half of the 1600's. He was born in 1657, place unknown. He lived/married with the Dutch (wife was Judith/Juda Ryke/Ryken/Ryker, daughter of Hendrick Rycken and Femmetje Peters. He named his children: Lowys(Louys/Lewis), Rossanna, Joseph, Jan, Maria and Pieter. He raised goats, made spritous beverages, was a land & road surveyor, and was sometimes called Seargent. His nearest neighbor was a Huguenot named La Tourette. The mystery is: where did he come from? Was he a Huguenot or Walloon named Bastide. Or was he a Scandinavian or Dutch or Frisian or Saxon named Boustedter? Is anyone aware of a Boustedt/Bostetter etc. named Joseph who may have been in the military and immigrated to the New World in the 1600's ?? My only other clue is my Y-DNA which is Haplogroup G2a, rare in Northern Europe. Thanks and regards, Stephen Wesley Bastedo
