I found in the book Cradled in Sweden, Nordquist was a soldier name. My great grandmother went by the surname Nordquist. Could someone tell me if this meant that her father was a soldier. Or could it have been her grandfather. I guess what I am asking is when a person took a soldier name was that name passed on from generation to generation? And is Nordquiest a soldier name? Thanks for any help.
