His naturalization papers should have his name at birth, birthdate, where he was born (specifically), and much more than that. They will be found probably at a NARA facility near where he lived when he naturalized. A local genealogical society should be able to help you know where to look.
Marriage records often give the names of the mother and father of the people getting married. The information is not always accurate but you might get more information. I have found birth places there, and often they have been more detailed than just Sweden. Those records are often kept on the county level.
Check the church or churches he attended and perhaps they have his birthplace and birthdate. He emigrated rather late to get much help from the Swenson Center, which has records which usually only go up to about 1930. I have seen MUCH later records for some churches, though, so it is worth checking. The parish in Sweden is given for members of the church.
